Kaprun Castle
Touring the old walls
Kaprun Castle is a great destination for families and it is worth a visit in both bad and good weather. A visit to the medieval walls can be perfectly combined with our family hikes (Kapruner Moos walk, Guggenhöhenweg). We would also recommend a visit to the Vötters Vehicle Museum which is located on the same street. Tip: For all morning grouches, the castle can be visited in the afternoon or as a short excursion between other activities.
Kaprun Castle History
The Kaprun Castle was built in the 12th century by the Upper Bavarian noble family. Since then, it was a place of residence for the nobles, and it also served as a defense facility. After this time, it unfortunately fell into disrepair. However, it has been lovingly restored by the Kaprun Castle Society (Burgverein Kaprun) over the past few decades. Today, the castle majestically looks down on the village of Kaprun and it is best to visit the imposing castle and admire the unique scenery.
